Border control is one of the most important
topics not only in Europe, but also in the whole world. European countries are
countries in which border patrol is not that strong in many countries and this
allows people form neighbouring countries to travel illegally to them. Some of the problems that come up when
speaking of border control are: illegal immigrants, drug trafficking, human
trafficking, terrorism, and many more.
Enhancing border control in the external borders of the EU is important
because it would help solve many of the problems mention before and therefore
making Europe a safer place. The countries to which most people travel
illegally are the Canary Islands in Spain, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland,
and Italy, so they are the countries that ought to improve the border first
because as stated before they are the most venerable places and the places
where most people get in easily. The fact that security will get better if
border security is increased can be proved by the US that by implementing more
security in the San Diego County border with Mexico the problems like drug
trafficking, and crimes have diminished by about 25% this was declared by the
US Border Patrol. Pakistan is also a good example to prove this point since
after building a fence for protection in its most venerable border terrorist
attacks and drug smuggling have decreased enormously since this past action.
The United Kingdom of Brittan and Northern
Ireland in favour of enhancing the border patrol, but is not involved with this
topic. This is because the UK is not part of the Schengen agreement and
therefore dose not opens its borders with other countries in Europe or any
other place. Even though the UK is not a part of the Schengen agreement it
still contributes to enhancing the border patrol since, the UK itself is a part
of the EU and that is the mayor reason it is in favour. Some of the things that
the UK has done in the past to enhance its borders is placing more security in
places in Northern Ireland since it I the place where most people go to
illegally. A problem that recently was discovered by the UK is that many of its
border patrol officers are receiving bribes from people to let them pass
through the border but the UK solved this problem by making random “checkups”
every week or so.
To
solve this problem my delegation suggests the following solutions and hopes other
nations to join. First my delegation suggests increasing border patrol personnel
because this will not only help increase security but also create jobs for
persons all over Europe. The UK also suggests to implement a law that is used
in the United Kingdom that states that any person living in the UK ought to
have a visa or a family member who is a legalized citizen of the country and if
otherwise the person should be send back to his own country. Also the UK
suggests enhancing first the borders of the Canary
Islands in Spain, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, and Italy because they are
the most venerable. To rephrase my delegation’s solutions are increasing the
border patrol personnel first in the most venerable borders in countries and to
implement laws against illegal immigrants in countries, which do not have them.
My delegation is open for other solutions.
